In a hot, humid weather like this, who needs makeup, amirite!?
Well, my makeup game has been pretty minimal and effortless lately, but surprisingly, I still failed to fit everything I reach for on the daily basis, in my makeup bag.
There are two Glossier products I’ve been reaching for pretty much every single time I go for a foundation-free look: Cloud Paint in Beam and a Generation G lipstick in Cake. Beam has beautiful peach tones that work surprisingly well with my skin tone. Blush is one thing I always struggle with, but these are so easy to work with. I was a bit disappointed when I saw how small these were, but you only need a tiny drop of product to add some color to your complexion. These blend really nicely, so there’s no blotchiness. I also picked up one of their new Cloud Paint shades in Storm, which is a pretty rose shade.
I always mention that when it comes to Glossier, some of their products are great, some are a bit overhyped, some of them did not work for me at all. BUT, the Generation G lipsticks are amazing- especially for someone who doesn’t like to wear pigmented, rich lip products, but still wants to add some color. They have the most amazing formula; they feel just like a lip balm, but look like a blotted, matte lipstick. Extremely comfortable to wear with a fool-proof formula. No need for lip primers, liners, touch-ups, etc. I was afraid that Cake would have a bit of that orange or concealer-like look on me since when it comes to nude lip colors it’s always a hit or miss for me. Thankfully, this shade quickly became one of the everyday favorites (along with Zip which I love to use in Spring.) It just looks very natural and adds just the right amount of color. I also love topping it with just a touch of Jouer’s Lip Topper in Skinny Dip.
Cream shadows are great to reach for when it comes to effortless, quick and easy looks (duh, right?). I love Tom Ford’s Cream & Powder duos and just added Young Adonis to my collection. It’s a light brown with a bit of shimmer and works really beautifully with blue eyes- it’s a perfect combo for summer.
I actually haven’t been wearing foundation too often lately which I still find surprising and strangely liberating, given my history with skin problems. When my skin was at its worst, I actually slept with foundation on once, when visiting out-of-state friends. I mean, I didn’t even care if it was 100 degrees outside. Now that we’re having this insanely hot and humid weather, it feels great to be able to leave the house bare-faced, without having to worry about someone making a stupid comment about your skin.
I did, however, try, test and fall in love with a new foundation- and it’s from a drugstore brand. Covergirl’s Trublend Matte Made* foundation. I’ve actually read a few reviews after receiving this collection from Covergirl and some mention a problem with the product’s texture, but I haven’t experienced that problem at all. I love the coverage, the fact that there is a selection of 40 shades, which is awesome. The packaging is great, Iove the pump bottle. The thing is, my skin isn’t a hot oily mess anymore, so I can’t say whether or not it works with oily skin and if it does stay matte throughout the day. It has a very nice, natural-looking finish on my normal/dry skin though.
I’m pretty sure I already mentioned that I finally caved in and got lash extensions and it’s been pretty life-changing when it comes to my beauty routine. I no longer have to reach for mascara- and technically, you’re not supposed to wear any, unless using water-based products. Hourglass will soon be releasing a new oil-free mascara: Caution Extreme Lash Mascara.* I was lucky to have received a complimentary tube from Influenster and as soon as I realized that it’s oil-free I knew I had to try it. I am due for a refill next week so my extensions are not looking best at the moment, but this new gem from Hourglass came to the rescue. I love how soft the brush is; it’s tapered so it reaches even the tiniest lashes that tend to hide in those inner corners of the lash line. Also, it removes very easily, doesn’t flake or smudge. Love.
