Remember that time when I was in a hurry and accidentally used an eyeliner to fill in my brows?
Yea.. that’s when I decided NOT to store my brow pencils in the same container as my eyeliners.
I’m doing a little spring cleaning around the house and decided to reorganize and re-paint my little beauty room/closet (again- btw would you guys like to see a before/after post?). This is a perfect opportunity to get rid of all the unused and unloved products that have been taking up space and organize my stash a little.
I’ll be honest- I probably reorganize my makeup way too often, but truth be told, I find this to be very therapeutic- especially if I get to throw away a bunch of old/used up products.
CREATE YOUR “ESSENTIALS” TRAY
This, of course, depends on how large your makeup collection is. If you’re anything like me and have A LOT of makeup, do what I do and keep all of your essentials and daily staples in one tray or a big makeup bag. This way, you’ll have your most-used and loved products stored in one place where they’re easily accessible. I also keep a separate little basked for products I’m testing out for reviews- this is a big help.
STORE AWAY WHATEVER YOU DON’T USE
Go through your stash and store away whatever you don’t use on regular basis. Even if your makeup collection isn’t extensive, you’d be surprised how many products just sit in your beauty corner, not being used. I also have a few “backup” products- like an extra bottle of my favorite foundation in my summer shade, or my favorite mascara- I store those away too.
USE DRAWERS WITH DIVIDERS
Using dividers is a perfect solution for clustering products together. I keep my makeup organized by category: concealer, bronzers, blushes, etc. If you don’t have drawers then I highly recommend using one of the acrylic makeup organizers. I personally love MUJI, but I also use something similar to this to store my lipsticks. There are many places you can find them online, but I actually bought a few of these in places like HomeGoods and Marshalls.
Some of my favorite “everyday” lip products.
USE CANDLE JARS
This is something we all do, isn’t it? I probably have about 10 of these and use each one to store different things- empty candle jars are perfect for storing mascaras, lip liners, eyeliners, eye pencils and makeup brushes.
KEEP THE NAMES VISIBLE
When it comes to lipsticks, especially ones that are packaged like MAC, where you can’t see the color until you remove the cap- storing them upside down is something that really helps me out. This is a huge time-saver since it lets you find the shade you need quicker, without having to rummage through your entire collection.
PUT EVERYTHING BACK IN ITS PLACE
.. right away. This is something I still struggle with sometimes (my beauty corner can get REALY messy at times) but putting everything back in its place right away will help you stay organized. This is something I make sure to do especially after going out- that’s when I usually change handbags and bring a few essentials with me (like lipstick, powder, etc.) I always make sure to put those back the next day.
When it comes to storing things like nail polishes, base and top coats, etc. keep in my mind that they need to be stored in a dry and cool place, so avoid storing them in your bathroom.
The only thing that I still haven’t been able to figure out is how to store my eyeshadow palettes- some of them are really bulky. Do you guys have any suggestions? How do you store your beauty products?
