THIRTEEN THOUGHTS

7 Easy ways to speed up your morning beauty routine

Hit the snooze button too many times?

Don’t worry. It happens to the best of us. There are a few things that come in handy when you only have a few minutes to pull yourself together; like good organization and a great texturizing spray.

STYLE YOUR HAIR OVERNIGHT

Styling your hair is probably an aspect of your morning beauty routine that takes the longest. On those days when I wash my hair, I let it air-dry until it’s about 70-80% dry and then I blow dry it using a big round brush. Right before I go to sleep I put it in a loose bun and secure it with a big clip. This way, when I let my hair down in the morning, it’s already styled. If you try this, I also recommend using a little volumizing powder. On those days when I don’t wash my hair, I use dry shampoo before going to sleep- this prevents my scalp from producing excess oil and the shampoo absorbs well, without leaving any powdery residue. In the morning, I just use a ton of my favorite texturizing spray and use my hands to sort of tease my hair a little bit and create that *oh-I-just-rolled-out-of-bed-but-my-hair-is-looking-fiiiinnee* look. At least that’s what I’d like to think my hair looks like.

STICK TO PRESSED FORMULAS

If you like to wear black A LOT, like me, you’re probably sick and tired of people coming up to you with that stupid grin on their faces, asking “ohh hey… so… um… who died?” And if you’re in hurry, you’re better off sticking to pressed formulas when it comes to makeup- especially powder! Loose powders, as much as I love them, can sometimes get messy. Being in a  hurry+black clothing+loose powders can equal a disaster. When you need to be at work like 10 minutes ago, the last thing you need is having to change your outfit ( and now that I’m thinking about it…. you could probably do your makeup before getting dressed, but I always do it the other way around).

GO FOR PRODUCTS THAT TARGET MULTIPLE NEEDS

I love using BB Creams, Tinted Moisturizers, Lip & Cheek tints and other multitasking products, whenever I’m in a rush. The only thing that I wouldn’t do is depend on makeup containing SPF- they’re often unstable and I always, always wear sunscreen under my makeup. Rain or shine.

LIPSTICK AND MASCARA

Don’t have 15 minutes to blend that eyeshadow? Stick with your base, lipstick, and mascara. Go for bolder colors like bright reds- they usually look beautiful with just mascara and make you look completely put-together.

CREAM EYESHADOW

….and if you insist on wearing eyeshadow, stick to cream formulas: they’re much easier to use and are great to apply on-the-go.

TWO SETS OF MAKEUP

I always make sure that I have a few essentials in my bag like tissues, lipstick, powder, concealer, etc. This way if forget to set my foundation with powder, I can always do so once I get to work. Keeping two sets of makeup- one in your usual spot and a small stash in your bag will also help you stay organized… speaking of which…

KEEP YOUR MAKEUP IN ONE PLACE

Guys, this is my biggest struggle right here. Because I take pictures of my products so often and love featuring “motds” on my Instagram, it means that I leave my makeup all over the place. I can’t tell you how many times I’d start doing my makeup in the morning, and then spend about 15 minutes looking for my eyebrow brush or my favorite concealer. This is definitely something that I’m working on at the moment.

How about your morning beauty routine, do you keep it simple?
