When I saw the “Color Foil” nail polish collection by Sally Hansen hit the stores, I was ecstatic. Well, let’s not kid ourselves, I always get excited whenever there’s a new nail polish trend coming out. I always see those pictures all over the Instagram with these beautiful, gold nails that look just like a piece of foil taped on the nail and was hoping that the “Liquid Gold” polish from the “Color Foil” would give me a similar effect. Not so much.
As soon as I applied a first coat of this polish, my mind went “the 90’s called… they want their nail trend back”. I was hoping for a crazy, creamy and smooth finish and that is not what I got. In order for the coverage to be even, I had to apply about 3 coats. I avoided using a top coat, as I thought that it would ruin the whole “metallic” finish of the polish. Next thing I know the polish already started chipping while taking these pictures (about 30 minutes after application). In my book, that’s a big “no”. I was also disappointed to find out that I already have an identical nail polish in my collection: Essie’s “Good as gold” (you can see a little glimpse of it in this post).
I definitely won’t be buying any more colors from this collection. I can’t quite point my finger on it, but something was just “off” about this formula. I’m not a fan of the metallic finish (I just thought it would be a lot more “creamy”), but I definitely see myself using this polish for nail art, perhaps for an accent nail or something of that sort. I think that the formula is a bit too thin and the finish isn’t as smooth as I had hoped for.

July 18, 2014 at 10:59 pmI still don’t know how I feel about these polishes. They seem like they would be awesome for art like you said, but not for every nail

July 20, 2014 at 9:12 amWhat a shame the polish didn’t live up to expectations Paula, always so typical I find, when it’s a product you get interested in and can’t wait to try :( Even more of a shame as it does look truly gorgeous on you in these photos, and I love the metallic shimmer, it really dazzles and glistens :D As for the Insta-girls, you have the most beautiful nails out there, without a doubt! <3
So sad the formula was disappointing. The premise sounds great as does the design sound promising so you would have thought a sure fire formula would have been designed better so as not to chip :( I so hope you find a fantastic alternative that lives up to the hype!
I love your "the 90s called.. they want their nail trend back" first initial thought; genius! :D ;) Shows you have a fab sense of humour my girl, even when not trying to! :D :)

July 26, 2014 at 3:50 pmUgh, I know, right? I somehow managed to take decent pictures, but you have no idea how difficult it was. This polish has pretty, reflective qualities that just didn’t agree much with the lighting situation in my room while I was taking these.
haha :) Thanks so much Sophie, glad you like my sense of humor ;) ;)
