I will never forget the first time I used foundation. I’ve always had problematic skin and one day I attacked my mom’s beauty product stash and after “doing” my makeup (which was just foundation and mascara) I looked in the mirror and thought “wow, so this is what it’d feel like to have perfect, spot-free skin.”
That was probably the exact moment I fell in love with makeup. Shortly after that I discovered colored eyeliners and cream blush- you can imagine just how much fun I had experimenting with makeup for the first time. As much as I loved makeup though, I still had to deal with skin problems like acne, clogged pores and hyper-pigmentation. When it comes to makeup, you have to think of your skin as a blank canvas; without a good skincare routine, your makeup will never look good and your foundation will not apply flawlessly. Rough texture, dry skin, active breakouts- these are things that makeup accentuates.
Over the last few weeks, I completely transformed my skincare routine by using Paula’s Choice RESIST line products. I’ve used Paula’s Choice products in the past and I loved them, so when I found out that I’d have the opportunity to work with them via PRIMP, I was very excited.
I was scheduled for a phone skincare consultation with Paula’s Choice team, during which I talked about my skin type and my problem areas. After explaining that my skin is acne-prone, but under control with some post-breakout hyper-pigmentation, I was provided with right products that fit my skin’s needs. Because Paula’s Choice wants everyone to find perfect products for their skin, anyone can receive a FREE personal skincare consultation by calling this number: 1-800-831-4088. Paula’s Choice also offers a 100% Money Back Guarantee (within 60 days), their products are not tested on animals and do not contain any dyes and fragrances, which are known irritants.
There are two things that I really love about Paula’s Choice products: they are fragrance free- which is something I love in skincare products as sometimes those containing fragrance can irritate my skin- and their packaging. You guys know that I’m not a fan of jar packaging when it comes to skincare because it makes it almost impossible for active ingredients to stay stable as you open and close the jar several times a day. Paula’s Choice products come in great packaging, the cleanser and moisturizer also come with a pump which is awesome. Another great thing is that all of the products that I used are incredibly gentle and non-irritating, at the same time they get the job done. Here is a breakdown of my routine, in order the products are used:
Paula’s Choice Resist Perfectly Balancing Foaming Cleanser– gentle cleanser suitable for normal, oily and combination skin types. It has few things that I really love in my cleansers: it’s non-drying, fragrance-free and very gentle on my skin. At the same time though, it keeps my acne under control.
Paula’s Choice Resist Daily Pore-Refining Treatment 2% BHA– this toning treatment is one of my favorite products from the RESIST line. It’s formulated with salicylic acid, but it’s incredibly gentle on the skin, it keeps it smooth and refined: it exfoliates both inside the pore and on skin’s surface to improve texture. Use after cleanser.
Paula’s Choice Resist Pure Radiance Skin Brightening Treatment– Perfect for treating post-acne scars, this treatment feels incredibly smooth on the skin, it’s non-irritating and adds an instant *glow*. Use this after your toning treatment.
Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-aging Clear Skin Hydrator– This is a great product for acne-prone skin but it also has anti-aging properties that help improve skin’s tone and texture. It’s lightweight, absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy residue.
Paula’s Choice Resist Vitamin C Spot Treatment– This vitamin C treatment reinforces skin’s protective barrier & reduces inflammation, improves the appearance of wrinkles and brown/dark spots. Unlike with the Brightening Treatment or the Skin Hydrator, this spot treatment is supposed to be applied by gently patting on skin, rather than rubbing it in. This product really made a very noticeable difference in my skin’s appearance; my post-breakouts marks look much lighter and become less visible with continued use.
Paula’s Choice Resist Youth Extending Daily Mattifying Fluid SPF 50– I am incredibly picky when it comes to my daily SPF moisturizers and I have to say that this one is probably the best one I’ve tried. My biggest problem with SPF moisturizers is that they irritate and burn my skin- this Youth Extending Daily Mattifying Fluid with SPF 50 is incredibly gentle and very lightweight.
I had really great results with these products and can’t wait to see how much more my skin will improve with continued use. The Daily Pore-Refining Treatment with 2% BHA is absolutely incredible and works so well with my acne-prone skin. My skin always feels smooth now and I don’t feel the need to use my glycolic acid exfoliating pads as often. I also noticed improvement in my brown/red spots, thanks to the Vitamin C Spot Treatment. The cleanser, as I already mentioned is gentle and non-drying, it also removes all traces of makeup. I also already mentioned Paula’s Choice lip scrub in this post, and it still remains one of my favorite lip scrubs, especially due to the packaging and being fragrance free. No messy jars here!

December 7, 2015 at 9:59 amI should try the moisturizer… I have one from Olay, which for the most part is good but it can feel a bit heavy and greasy sometimes. Good suggestions!

December 7, 2015 at 9:24 pmI recently started using Paula’s Choice 1% Retinol. It’s really powerful, so my skin is now just starting to adjust…there was some light peeling and dry patches for a bit, but overall the texture of my skin has improved a lot! Old acne spots and fine lines are fading…moisturizing properly and watching what other products you are using are key. Overall great product! Looking forward to trying others :)

December 8, 2015 at 6:16 pmOh yes, if you haven’t tried retinol products before your skin can take a while to get used it. I was using a prescription tretinoid, which is also a retinoid, but stronger than retinol and after 7 months of use, my skin was still peeling so I just went back to retinol. I also love Paula’s Choice Intensive Wrinkle Repair Retinol Serum. ;)

December 8, 2015 at 4:40 amPaulas Choice has been on my list of products to try for quite some time now, and your results seem to confirm that.
I got into makeup due to my very bad skin, too, but just like you discovered the importance of skincare along the way.
