Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette
I’m a huge fan of Hourglass Cosmetics and as soon as I saw previews of this limited edition palette, I knew I really wanted to get my hands on it. And then the reviews rolled in..
Seeing just how many makeup lovers were disappointed by the size and product quantity of this palette, I wasn’t sure whether or not it was worth spending $80.00 on this undeniably beautiful palette.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette ($80.00) includes 6 shades:
• DIM LIGHT: A neutral peach beige powder that blurs imperfections and highlights the complexion.
• IRIDESCENT STROBE LIGHT (NEW): A rose pearl powder that gives a refined glow to the complexion.
• DIFFUSED LIGHT: A soft, warm, pale yellow powder that conceals redness and gives skin clarity
• MOOD EXPOSURE: A soft plum blush fused with Mood Light to brighten the complexion.
• LUMINOUS FLUSH: A champagne rose blush fused with Luminous Light to evoke a candlelit glimmer.
• LUMINOUS BRONZE LIGHT – a medium tan shade fused with Luminous Light for a softer, candlelit warmth.
The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette contains 0.049 oz of each powder, whereas previous palettes like the Ambient Lighting Palette contains 0.133oz of each powder. A full-sized Ambient Lighting Powders are priced at $45.00 for 0.35 oz, Luminous Bronze Light Ambient Lighting Blush sells for $50.00 for 0.39 oz and Mood Exposure Ambient Lighting Blush sells for $35.00 for 0.15 oz.
Okay, so here’s the thing about this palette: product quantity and value-wise, it’s hard to compare the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette to previously released palettes. I think that quality-wise, these powders are amazing and I absolutely love them. However, I have to admit that the size of the pans in this palette makes the use and the application quite tricky. Forget using a bronzer or blush brush- unless you don’t mind mixing a few of these powders together. A few weeks ago, I told you about one of my all-time favorite makeup brushes: Sephora’s Pro Small Blush and Contour Brush and I have to say that it’s about the only brush that I am able to use with this palette.
With that being said, this palette is gorgeous; it comes with a huge mirror while being small and compact, which means that it’s perfect for traveling. I can see myself getting a lot of use out of it, and being a makeup junkie that I am, I just had to have it. I definitely do not regret getting it, even if I was left a bit disappointed about the size and product quantity.
I’m not entirely sure if this palette is worth the price, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t love it. Purchasing this is definitely a big splurge, and I suggest you do it only if you can afford it and don’t mind the small product quantity and small size of these pans.
