THIRTEEN THOUGHTS

Holy Grail Status: The old and the new

holy-grail-products

How long do you usually have to use a product before giving it a “Holy Grail” status?

For me, sometimes it can take months of use, but I’ve also given away the title to some products right after my first use (like the Better Than Sex Mascara, which I cannot shut up about! ;) ).

Tartelette palette – I always come back to this palette and I still think that it’s one of the best and most versatile palettes in my collection. I can’t wait to get my hands on Tartelette 2!

Another all-matte palette that will forever be my favorite and an everyday go-to is Lorac’s Pro Matte palette.

I searched and searched and nothing compares to my number 1 foundation: Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet+. I’m pretty sure everyone is already sick of me talking about it, but it’s just that good. It keeps the oiliness  at bay, while also letting your skin breathe and looking very natural. I really want to try something else that has similar formula- mattifying but natural and light- if you guys know of any foundation similar to this one, please let me know!

Coco Mademoiselle. I’ll be honest, when I was first gifted a bottle of Coco Mademoiselle many years a go, it wasn’t love at first sight (first sniff?). I thought it was a bit overpowering and wasn’t “young” enough for me, I’ve always thought of it as a mature scent. I think it’s one of those scents that has to grow on you, and over the last couple of years, it certainly did grow on me and at the moment it’s one of my favorite fragrances. Top notes include Sicilian orange, Calabrian bergamot and Sicilian grapefruit. The heart is very floral with pure rose and jasmine extract with base notes of Indonesian patchouli, Bourbon vanilla, white musk and Haitian vetiver. it also has a strong sillage and it’s also very long-lasting

Not too long a go, I finally got my hands on Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and I have to say that it got that “Holy Grail” status after only first couple of uses. I wish that there was a water-proof version of this, but other than this, I’ve got nothing but love for this mascara. I also talked about it in this post.

Yet another Too Faced product that quickly became a favorite is their Hangover Primer. Unlike most makeup primers, this doesn’t have that silicon-like texture and it doesn’t leave that film-like texture on my skin. It’s moisturizing and very hydrating and it does a great job at prepping the skin for base application- I think that anyone with dry skin will really love this.

Left: MAC Soft and Gentle, right: Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Beige

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Beige has been a favorite of mine for a very long time- I use it on my cheeks, sometimes as an eyeshadow- it’s really a great multitasking product. However, I do find that the more I use the compact, the less product my brush seems to be picking up.

A while a go, I’ve also picked up MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle and all I’ve got to say is WOW. For years now Porcelain Pink was one of my favorite highlighters from MAC, but after using Soft and Gentle, I don’t know if I’ll ever go back. I definitely see why this has become such a cult classic, it creates the most beautiful glow- especially when the light hits your skin!

What are some of your Holy Grail products? How long do you usually have to use a product before giving it that glorious title?
