Hair, regardless of texture, length or color, is most beautiful when it shines with health. Nutrition is very important when it comes to hair, but who can really manage to eat salmon every day of the week? That is why I take Omega3 oils every single day, and since I started, I do not deal with falling hair anymore- and my hair was falling out like crazy.
I rarely blow-dry my hair and try to not overuse hot tools such as flatiron. If I do, I of course use a heat protecting spray (it is also important to not use any hot tools on hair that is not completely dry). Washing hair every day is also not very good, because it strips it from natural oils, that’s why hair should be washed every other day, or as necessary. This can be difficult, especially if your hair (like mine) tends to get oily very quickly. If that’s the case, I suggest using dry shampoo (whoever the genius behind this invention is-I thank you!). In addition to using sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, after I towel-dry my hair, I rub an anti-breakage serum, starting mid-shaft and concentrating on the ends. My favorite at the moment is Organix’s cocunut milk nourishing serum.
Other habits that help keep hair healthy are regular trimming (it won’t make the hair grow faster, but it will rid of the split ends, which split upward) and eventual regular treatments. I’m pretty sure everyone heard of coconut oil and its benefits by now, it can be either heated until it has somewhat of a liquid consistency, and rubbed into hair and rinsed out; or it can be used “as is” and massaged into scalp and ends. Scalp also needs to be paid special attention, especially when washing your hair. I have heard that “scalp peeling” products are very effective, so far I did not come across any, but I’d definitely want to try them.
Now, another of my favorite at home treatments involves an egg, some olive oil and honey :). I mix one egg with a teaspoon of olive oil and a teaspoon of raw, organic honey; I then apply the “mask” on my dry hair, cover it with a towel and let sit about twenty minutes before washing it out. This little DIY mask adds shine and also strengthens the hair.
