Like pretty much every year, late September brings in the rain, the wind, and then some more rain.
… and I’m loving it. Fall has arrived, at last, and I couldn’t be happier.
This, of course, means changing up your wardrobe, updating your skincare for cooler months ahead, and changing up a few things in the makeup department.
Lipstick is, without a doubt, the easiest way to switch things up and update your look as the seasons change. It’s one of those “Fall things” I always look forward to every year.
I’ve heard and read so many amazing things about Urban Decay’s new Lo-Fi Lip Mousse and, yup, it was all true. It has such a unique, weightless and soft formula- it’s unlike anything I’ve ever used before. The finish is so velvety, even if you build up the color, it still feels weightless on the lips. For now, I’ve only picked up Amplify– which is a pretty, bright red on me that’s perfect for this time of year. I will definitely be adding the rest of the colors to my collection.
Also from Urban Decay, I’ve been loving 1993. It’s not your “typical” fall color, but of course, I had to include a nude in this list. It’s a pretty, medium brown and has, once again, a very comfortable, creamy formula, and a gorgeous matte finish.
You already know that whenever I can’t decide on a lipstick, 85% of the time I end up going with Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk. During colder months, I like swapping in with Bond Girl– its berry-red sister.
Another beauty product award for a beautiful matte and incredibly comfortable and pigmented formula should go to Lancome’s Color Design lipstick in “Not Afraid.” I’m not sure when was the last time I’ve used their lip products, but I have to say I’m quite impressed with how beautifully it wears and the fact that it doesn’t fade or feather out during the day.
Of course, there are also a few, old favorites that I re-purchased several times over the years. NYX’s Siren is one of them- I have every single color from their Matte collection, that is how much I love the formula of these. Siren is a beautiful, cool plum color that’s surprisingly easy to pull off.
Another drugstore gem is Revlon’s Black Cherry. Unlike Siren, Black Cherry has a shiny, glossy even, finish. The formula is hydrating and very comfortable to wear. When applied, it doesn’t look as deep as it does in the tube, but it’s still one of my Fall favorites. The formula works best when used with a lip primer, like this one from MAC, which you will never find me without, by the way.
One of my “signature” colors that I’ve been using for the last couple of years (so, also an old favorite) is Burberry’s Liquid Lip Velvet in Oxblood. First, the formula of these feels just like a velvety mousse, it’s incredibly pigmented and very, very long-lasting. Second, Oxblood just works beautifully with my light skin tone and blue eyes. It’s probably one of the most-flattering dark, burgundy lip colors on me, that I have in my collection.
Last year, when I picked up Nars’s Powermatte Lip Pigment in Paint it Black, I was convinced that I most likely will not actually feel comfortable enough to rock black lipstick. Well, I actually did use it and wear it both last Fall and Winter and I have to say that it kind of made me remember why I fell in love with makeup in the first place and how fun it can be to switch things up once in a while.
From left to right: Charlotte Tilbury “Bond Girl;” MAC “Diva;” Revlon “Black Cherry;” Urban Decay “1993;” Lancome Color Design “Afraid Not” in Matte; NYX “Siren” Matte Lipstick; Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet in “Oxblood;” Urban Decay Lo-Fi Lip Mousse in “Amplify;” Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment in “Paint it Black;”
And, last but certainly not least, there’s MAC Diva– definitely a cool-weather favorite from MAC if there ever was one. It’s a warm burgundy, packed with color and a beautiful, long-lasting, matte finish.
