Long, long time ago, I fell in love with a most beautiful fragrance: Victoria’s Secret Body by Victoria. After years of using this fragrance, Victoria’s Secret did what many other companies sometimes do with great products: they changed its formula.
Few years back, after the packing was changed (the original came in this beautiful, white frosted bottle), I discovered that Body by Victoria was longer the same scent. Being that this was one of my favorite fragrances, you can imagine how disappointed I was when I noticed that it smelled nothing like it used to. I really couldn’t understand why Victoria’s Secret felt the need to change not only the packaging, but the scent itself as well.
Next thing you know, they change the packaging yet again, but this time there were some good news: the perfume was said to be the same as the older, 2002 edition. As soon as I learned that, I wanted to order a bottle and see for myself. Right now Victoria’s Secret offers these “Treat Yourself” sets that come with a 50ml bottle of perfume, 7ml perfume rollerball and a cute little trinket dish for your vanity (sold for $70.00 right now it’s on sale for $56.00).
I’m not exactly sure that this scent is the same as the original Body by Victoria, but it’s incredibly close, which I am SO happy about! I want to say that it smells almost the same as the first version released in 2002. It’s floral, fresh, clean with green notes of crushed leaves, freesia and aquatic hyacinth. It comes off a bit strong at first, but fades into a very delicate and soft, a bit powder-y scent that lasts up to about 7 hours. One thing that I do have to say is that I really don’t like the bottle… I really don’t get why beauty companies feel the need to change something when it’s good.. including the packaging. The plastic “bow” (ribbon?) on the bottle looks incredibly cheap and tacky, I wish I could just snap it off or something. Knowing how glamorous Victoria’s Secret is, I would expect a lot more from them.
The rollerball is perfect for carrying in your bag and the vanity trinket dish is very sturdy and quite pretty with Victoria’s Secret signature white and pink stripes. If you loved the original Body by Victoria perfume, you can rejoince! This is probably as close as we will get to the older version. I absolutely love this scent, but think that the packaging is way off. What do you guys think?
