How much are you willing to spend on a lip product?
I have some expensive lip balms and lipsticks in my collection, but you will never, never see me spend $90.00 on a lipstick (looking at you Christian Louboutin). They say never say never.. but…. here I am, saying it: never.
On the other hand, though, I’d never think that I’d get so attached to a lip balm that comes with a hefty price tag of $37.00. I guess some things are just worth splurging on.
MAC lipsticks are definitely amongst my favorites and I love splurging on a new one every once in a while. I love pretty much every single one of them I’ve ever bought. The colors are always pigmented, the formulas are creamy, long-lasting and the packaging is simple. These come in several different finishes: Amplified, Cremesheen, Frost, Glaze, Lustre, Satin and Matte. Matte formulas are my favorite- I love Ruby Woo, Velvet Teddy, Whirl, Taupe. These are $17 each (last year they used to be $16, hope that MAC won’t raise the price again) and you can also get one for free if you bring six empty MAC containers to any freestanding MAC store.
MAKE UP FOR EVER LIP LINE PERFECTOR ($19)
This might as well be called “the only lip liner you’ll ever need.” It’s a clear lip liner that will prevent any lipstick from feathering and “bleeding” out. It has a creamy, comfortable formula and texture that fills in fine lines and hydrates the skin. I love using this with bright pinks and reds because it really helps the color stay put. It’s also pretty long-lasting (your lipstick will fade before it’ll feather out) so it’s also my go-to product for any special occasions.
CHANEL ROUGE ALLURE VELVET LUMINOUS MATTE LIPSTICKS ($37)
I have four of these lipsticks and their formula is just incredible. The colors are bright, vibrant, pigmented, the finish isn’t entirely matte- it’s sort of illuminating, but a little matte at the same time. Very unique finish. They’re very hydrating, which sometimes means that they travel quite a bit once applied, so lip liner is definitely a must with these. I love that the velvety formula of these doesn’t accentuate any dry bits.
Hands down one of my favorite Dior products. Prior to trying this many years ago, I couldn’t stand the smell of rose in cosmetics, and now, I’m a huge fan. This balm smoothes, slightly plumps and hydrates lips. It’s rich and creamy and adds a slight rosy glow to my lips.
This is probably the only lip primer that I actually loved. It takes a few minutes to set and dry, but once you follow with your lipstick you will not believe how long it’ll last. It’s color-free, smoothes and refines lips but the main reason why I love it is that it turns any lipstick into a long-lasting one. I kind of feel like this primer and the MUFE Lip Line Perfector have a very similar formula and they work really nicely together.
CHANEL ROUGE COCO BAUME ($37.00)
Where do I start with this one? Let me just say that I suffer from chronically dry lips and this is one of my favorite lip balms. I first bought it a few years ago and when the sales lady started telling me how wonderful it is, I thought she was full of crap. She wasn’t. Right now I take a bunch of meds that make my lips and my mouth very dry so I apply and re-apply lip balm throughout the day like a maniac. I always keep coming back to this balm. It’s very lightweight yet really nourishing and hydrating. I used to buy this even back in the college days when all of my money went on books and tuition and I couldn’t really afford to spend money on things like makeup. That’s how much I love this balm.
